SEPT. 28 | Monterey Media is organizing a nationwide “Weekend of Unity and Peace” to raise awareness for the film 10 Questions for the Dalai Lama, which comes to DVD Oct. 23 ($24.95).
Timed to coincide with the Dalai Lama’s upcoming visit to North America, the promotion will take place Oct. 19-21 at more than 100 events hosted by churches, temples, new age gift stores and other outlets that sign up on the Web site www.unityandpeace.org.
Monterey is making the film available for screening at the events along with a DVD interview with filmmaker Rick Ray. Advertising and editorial will appear in local and national publications, and there will be radio interviews with Ray.
Retailers who want to get involved themselves can let customers know of events happening in their areas or attend the events themselves, a Monterey spokeswoman said.
Events will include ideas offered on the Web site designed to bring communities together, such as having a town’s mayor issue a proclamation of peace and unity, inviting local vendors to sell goods and distribute samples and inviting speakers such as a local professor of Tibetan studies, Buddhist teacher or minister.
A Weekend of Unity and Peace supporters include Amnesty International’s National Weekend of Faith in Action, The UN’s International Day of Peace & Culture of Peace Initiative, Friends of Tibet, The Foundation for Universal Responsibility, The Assn. for Global New Thought, The Global Mala Project, Bay Area Friends of Tibet, Bioneers, New Conscious Review and Kids First.
